Shaun Akanbi, aged 26 and founder of Billy Boyce Clothing, was found dead at his home in Cedar Lodge, Exeter Road, after police broke in following concerns about his welfare on December 22. Fans and wearers of Billy Boyce clothing include Miss Dynamite, Ironik and Fazer from grime trio N-Dubz, Wiley & Tinie Tempah to name a few.
Shaun Akanbi was once asked who inspired him to create such radical designs and his response was: “I’m inspired by so many people and things so naming one specific body to summarise it all would be quite difficult. However, am mainly inspired by the creative minds of kids and youths and street culture, the punk era, vibrant colours, flamboyant buttons, patches, heightened fierce and diva like personalities, futuristic creations and like most people, I love everything that sparkles. Hence, my idea of creating a new genre brand with the combination of street, glamour and excitement.”
Billy Boyce Clothing, which is named after the creative directors’ father makes bold statements with every collection piece. Combining futuristic holograms, sequin, detailed trimmings and eclectic colours, into a glistening and exciting modern street wear collection. Below are a few examples of his work.
